Act Now

About Act Now

How often do we walk past someone less fortunate than us on the street, or hear about people in other countries struggling to make ends meet and do nothing about it?

Act Now is an opportunity to do something and make a collective difference while at NTE.

Encourage student groups throughout the world

WITH IFES (INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP OF EVANGELICAL STUDENTS)

At NTE, Australian uni students have written letters to other student movements throughout the world, encouraging them to persevere in the gospel and reminding them of the partnership we have together in Jesus. We look forward to encouraging these groups further at NTE18.

GOAL:

- Write 600 letters to IFES groups (in non-sensitive areas) around the world

Enable the recording of the Gospel in Madagascar

WITH GLOBAL RECORDINGS NETWORK

How did you first come to know that Jesus is the Lord and Saviour? Did someone tell you? Did you read it somewhere? How would you know about Jesus if no Christians spoke your language and there were no Bible resources in your language?

This is the reality for many people groups around the world who have little or no Bible resources in the languages they speak. At NTE18 you can engage with technology developed by Christian mission agencies over the last 80 years to make Gospel audio recordings available to people all around the world. Partner with Global Recordings Network (GRN) to record the story of Jesus in 12 languages in Madagascar. Bible stories have already been translated but they need to be recorded so these Madagascan people groups can hear about Jesus in their own language.

GOALS:

- 300 people give $5 to make recordings of the story of Jesus in 12 languages in Madagascar.

- 200 people committed to praying that these 12 Madagascan people groups will hear these recordings soon and give their lives to Jesus.

Produce training materials for Zimbabwe FOCUS students

WITH FOCUS ZIMBABWE

FOCUS Zimbabwe is a reformed, evangelical and indigenous campus mission. It seeks to reach college and university students across Zimbabwe with the momentous news of Jesus. Under God, the ministry is growing, but its biggest threat is false teaching and poor bible knowledge among students. The lack of accessible gospel centred reading material has contributed to the challenges. In response to this, the aim for this year’s Act Now project is to raise funds to produce leadership training materials and bible study guides which will help FOCUS students engage more with the bible. Will you partner together with FOCUS Zimbabwe to see students trained up in leadership on their campuses?

GOALS:

- 300 people give $5 towards producing the training materials for FOCUS Zimbabwe Students

- 100 people to sign up for the FOCUS newsletter

Ski to purchase and distribute scripture audio players to Siberia, Russia.

WITH WYCLIFFE BIBLE TRANSLATORS

What if you couldn’t understand the bible in your national language? The church has been in Europe for over 1500 years, yet worship and ministry overwhelmingly had been conducted only in the larger national languages.  This was particularly so in communist Eastern Europe when minority languages were actively suppressed!

Wycliffe, partner organisations and churches are engaged in Bible translation in these minority languages in this region, where there are still 43 languages in Europe that do not have ANY of the Bible translated.  Where the Bible is being translated in these minority languages, scripture access is complemented through audio recordings where literacy rates are low.

Head to the Act Now room, step into your snow skis and help bring a scripture audio player to a Nenets reindeer herder in the far north of Siberia. You can also get  a selfie in traditional headgear when you sign up to prayer for Bible translation in this region.

GOALS:

- 300people give $5to ski (Nordic step trainer) 500m to purchase and bring a scripture audio player to Nenets nomadic reindeer herders in Siberia

- 100 people commit to praying for Bible translation in this region

- 200 one on one conversations about the Bible in the heart language, Bible translation, their possible part in this task and ministry

RAISE 3-month salary for a Special Education teacher in East Asia

WITH ANGLICAN AID

Anglican Aid is a Christian Aid agency caring for vulnerable people throughout the world. Our aim is to excel in the provision of aid, and relief through our gospel partners.  Our projects include community development, emergency relief, Biblical leadership and ministry projects.

'Take Flight' is an Anglican Aid project in East Asia, supporting children who have been abandoned due to their disabilities. 'Take Flight' works in two ways to give hope and a brighter future to these precious children: by caring for children who have been abandoned in the Take Flight Village, and working with families of children with a disability though a family support centre.

In the Take Flight village, children are placed in a home with foster mums and are given health care, health services, and therapy tailored for their needs. Through its family support centre, Take Flight hopes to see more and more children stay in the loving families God intended for them. The centre provides counselling and support services to parents who discover at birth that their child has a disability so that they are empowered to keep and raise their child.

The Special Education teacher’s role includes assessing and identifying capabilities and area of needs for each child and creating individual education plans to track their progress to enable children with disabilities lead meaningful joy-filled lives. They also provide the much needed love, support and care for the children and their caregivers (parents/ foster parents/health care professionals).

Our aim is to raise money to cover 3-month salary for a local Special Education teacher. The Special Education teacher will give children in the Take Flight Village and those who come to the Family Support Centre the vital care and direction they need to progress in their education, development and overall wellbeing.

GOALS:

- 360 people give $5 to support the salary of a special education teach for 3 months

- 100 people signing up to pray through our prayer diary
