Act Now

ABOUT act now

How often do we walk past someone less fortunate than us on the street, or hear about people in other countries struggling to make ends meet and do nothing about it?

Act Now is an opportunity to do something and make a collective difference while at NTE. During your time at NTE, make sure to spend some time in the Pelican Room and join us in supporting one (or more) of the following projects:

Encourage student groups throughout the world

WITH IFES (INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP OF EVANGELICAL STUDENTS)

At NTE, Australian uni students have written letters to other student movements throughout the world, encouraging them to persevere in the gospel and reminding them of the partnership we have together in Jesus. We look forward to encouraging these groups further at NTE17.

GOAL:

- Write 600 letters to IFES groups (in non-sensitive areas) around the world

record the gospel in a sensitive asian language

WITH GLOBAL RECORDINGS NETWORK

How do you share the gospel with someone who can’t read? Tell them? What if you can’t speak their language? What if no Christian on earth speaks their language? There are still millions of people in the world who haven’t heard the gospel because it hasn’t been made available to them in a language they can understand. At NTE17 we are partnering with Global Recordings Network (GRN) to record the story of Jesus in the language of a sensitive Asian people group and then distribute these recordings to the people who need to hear about Jesus.

GOALS:

- 240 people give $5 to record the Gospel in a sensitive Asian language

- 300 people give $2 to distribute these recordings among the same people group

- 150 people committed to praying for the recordists and the people group

PROVIDE THEOLOGICAL TRAINING FOR TWO FOCUS STAFF WORKERS

WITH FOCUS ZIMBABWE

FOCUS Zimbabwe is a reformed, evangelical and indigenous campus mission. It seeks to reach college and university students across Zimbabwe with the momentous news of Jesus. The biggest threat for ministry in Zimbabwe is false teaching and people adding to the bible. FOCUS staff workers have the responsibility to model good bible teaching and train students to read and understand the bible. This means the FOCUS staff workers need to be theologically trained to teach and train students on the campuses. With this in mind, FOCUS Zimbabwe is seeking to provide two staff with the opportunity to receive theological training from 2018. Will you partner with FOCUS to witness this prayer answered?

GOALS:

- 300 people give $5 toward the tuition of 2 FOCUS staff workers

- 100 people to sign up for the FOCUS newsletter

- 5 people to express interest in a short-term mission in Zimbabwe in 2019

PRAY FOR STUDENT GROUPS AROUND THE WORLD

WITH IFES (INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP OF EVANGELICAL STUDENTS)

AFES is only one Christian student movement based in a small corner of the globe. God is working through many IFES Christian student movements all over the world! At NTE17 our aim is that every person attending dedicates time to pray for IFES groups around the world.

GOAL:

- 1700 prayer cards distributed for NTE attendees to pray for IFES movements

ROW TO DELIVER YUMPLATOK NEW TESTAMENT TO TORRES STRAIT ISLANDS

WITH WYCLIFFE BIBLE TRANSLATORS

“Just teach English, then no translation will be needed!” Studies over the many years of translation have proven that even though English is taught in community schools, people will still communicate in their native language at home and in their social groups. At NTE17, we are partnering with Wycliffe to deliver the New Testament in the language of Yumplatok to needy Torres Strait Islanders who are significantly over represented in prisons. If there is a message of hope and freedom to be heard, then what better than to hear the good news from the Bible translated in your own heart language?

GOALS:

- 300 people to give $5 to row a canoe 500m (simulating transporting Yumplatok Bibles to Torres Strait Islanders)

- 150 commitments to pray for Pacific Islander mother tongue translators (Torres Strait and further out in the Pacific)

SUPPLY VITAL WATER WORKS IN PAKISTAN

WITH ANGLICAN AID

We want to put our faith into action at NTE to impact the world for the glory of Jesus. We want to raise money towards vital water works in Pakistan. Our aim is to raise money to build a water tank at a brick kiln factory site so that 300 bonded slave families working and living at the site can have access to contaminant free water. This means 300 adults and 650 kids can have clean water! Each water tank costs $2800 to build. This year at NTE, Anglican aid will match dollar for dollar up to the cost of a water tank. Be part of this project and give to supply these slave families with clean water.

GOALS:

- 360 people give $5 to contribute to supply one water tank to a brick kiln factory in Pakistan

- 200 people to commit to praying for Pakistan and this project

- 100 people to commit to champion or fund-raise for water in 2018
